Obituary for William Filipkowski Jr.

William (Bill) Francis Filipkowki, Jr, a lifelong resident of Erie, Pennsylvania, surrendered to his decades-long battle with COPD and more recently pulmonary fibrosis, quietly and surrounded by the love of his family, on September 4, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital. He was 85 years old.

Bill was born on July 8, 1936 to William Francis Filipkowski, Sr and Jane (Groholski). He attended college and graduate school studying microbiology and began his career in the Army infantry division, rising to rank of Captain. Bill enjoyed a working for the water department and various chemical companies until he found his groove as a middle school science teacher, teaching until retirement. Bill and Betty Ann were always on the move in the Erie area either shopping for their beloved charities or using their various skills and gifts to help local organizations reach their potential.

Bill is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Filipkowski (Tower); his children, Michelle Ibanez with husband, Juan, Jo Ann Krill, Patricia Stuck with husband Tim; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Higgins with husband Jeremy, Julianna Swartout with husband Cole; Allison Schwartz; step-grandchildren, David and Diana Stucke, Gabe Ibanez, Rachel Pearce, Karen Stucke, and all their families; one step- grandson, Gabe Ibanez; and two great-grandsons, Ryan Schnaekel and Chase Higgins. Bill was preceded in death by his brother Robert Filipkowski

Besides spending time with his beautiful bride of 60 years, Bill enjoyed reading, community service, and the comforts of home.

Friends may call on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at the Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. from 4:00pm until the time of the service at 6:00pm. Burial will be private. Send condolences to www.kloeckerfuneralhome.com.
