Obituary for Victoria Byerly

Victoria J. (Weitzel) Byerly, 71, of Erie, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Wednesday, October 16, 2019.

She was born on November 6, 1947 in San Diego, CA, the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Ainsworth) Weitzel.

Victoria spent her younger years in San Diego, CA before moving to Erie in 1969. She worked numerous jobs in plastics, finishing her years at Comptech. She dedicated her life to helping others in every way possible. For many years she was a member of AA and would show up early to meetings in order to set everything up for the members. For about four years, she volunteered and made deliveries for Meals on Wheels. Victoria was also a Field Commissioner for Boys Baseball. She was a giver.  Victoria made friends everywhere she went, constantly making a positive impact or sharing a friendly compliment to friends and strangers alike. She was the nicest person in the world.

She loved her sugar, often being called “Sugar Bear”. She made sure to bring candy and pop to events, as well as leaving the garbage men a pop for the road. Victoria loved her pets, bowling, and especially loved her BROWNS. If she was leaving the house, she made sure to put on her Browns gear. Woooooo Dawgie!!!

Above all, Victoria’s favorite thing in life was being a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. Her and her husband, Taylor, celebrated their 50th anniversary in February 2019. Victoria loved her family and she will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of meeting her.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Byerly, her siblings, John, Beverly Ann, George, and Norman, brother and sister-in-laws, Shirley, Evelyn, Sue, Butch, Jim, and Gary, and her mother-in-law, Leotta Byerly.

Victoria is survived by her husband, Taylor Byerly, her children, Teresa Root (John), Taylor “Tab” Byerly (Karen), Ralph Byerly (Erika Hengelbrok), and Dee Sommerville (Keith), grandchildren, Geno, Aundrea, Stevie (Sammi), John, Dan (Maureen), Kayli, Sara (Dan), Angelica, Dominique, Pryce, Alexandra, Nick, Michael, Alia, Tim, Lindsey, and Anna, great-grandchildren, Calvin and Michael, her siblings, David Weitzel (Hilary), her twin, Victor Weitzel, Shirley Ann “Babs” Hargar (Bob), and Patricia Winchester, brother and sister-in-laws, Tom Byerly, Evelyn Byerly, and Nancy Hardy.
