Obituary for Sidney Spruill

Sidney W. Spruill, Jr., age 86, of Erie, PA., passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2022. He was born on December 15, 1935, a son of the late Sidney and Doris Burke Spruill.

Sidney attended trade school after completing high school and started work immediately with the New York City Transit Authority.  He was employed with them until he retired in 1989.  Sidney had many entrepreneurial interests during his life.  He explored marketing, carpentry, electricity, and pest control businesses after retiring from the transit authority.

Sidney also loved sports, especially baseball. He was a dedicated Mets fan and could be found at home on game day in his favorite chair in front of the TV or at Shea Stadium, the Mets home field.  He was an active and proud member of the Masonic Temple in New York City.

He also enjoyed history and music.  In his later years, he could often be heard singing aloud his favorite Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett tunes. Reading and sharing his knowledge of history in conversations with his grandchildren was one of his greatest loves.

He spoke often about his faith and his family.

He is preceded in death by his father Sidney and his mother Doris.
He is survived by his wife Joyce A.L.Spruill, and children and stepchildren: Ernest, Doreen, Lydia, Sonia, Karen (Matthew) Thomas, Adrienne (Jean) Paul, and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

We will miss him.
