Obituary for Shirley Vogel (Hatfield)
Shirley H. Vogel, age 87, of Erie, passed away on October 14, 2022 at St. Vincent’s Hospital.
She was born in Newark, NY on February 4, 1935 a daughter of the late Jack and Sallie Balionis Hatfield.
Shirley graduated from Villa Maria High School. In addition to being a loving and devoted mother, she was an active member of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Ladies Guild and Bereavement Committee, a Philharmonic Volunteer/Docent, and she served as Secretary for the Penn-Ohio Literacy Coalition formed in the 1980’s.
She retired from the Erie School District as a Confidential Secretary in 1997, acted as an Official Scorer for the Academic Sports League and the United States Decathlon Association and was employed as a Library Supervisor at Mercyhurst College.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Vogel, her brother, Jack Hatfield and her sister, Patricia Hatfield Knobloch.
She is survived by five daughters, Janice Guinn of Dallas, TX, Denise Lewandoski (Hal) of Harborcreek, Diane Rewers of Erie, Sally Vogel of Frederick, MD, Elizabeth Vogel-Chase (Mel) of Germantown, MD and a son, Thomas Vogel (Sherry) of Erie, 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Private services are being held at the convenience of the family.
