Obituary for Shirley Markley (Schmitt)

Shirley Schmitt Markley, 84 of Erie, passed away August 19th at Sarah Reed Senior Living.

She was born in Erie on June 29, 1938 to the late John and Viola Schmitt.

She worked at Bliley Electric before moving to Ohio where she resided for 34 years. While in Ohio she worked for Western Auto, the Eastwood Mall, Ohio Roll Fab and the Card Gallery in Hermitage, PA. She moved back to Erie in 2006 after the passing of her husband Howard “Jack’ Markley, (of which she was married for 34 years) to be near her family.

Shirley grew up in Erie and attended Villa Marie High School. She enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. You could never leave her house without getting your picture taken.

Shirley was a kind and loving person who never said a bad word about anyone and always found the good in people.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Howard ”Jack” Markley and her sister Evelyn Seyboldt.

Shirley is survived by her son Patrick (Karen) DiLuzio, her grandchildren Jennifer (Richard) Bon, Brian (Jackie) DiLuzio, Christine (Brad) Komaromy and Eric (Jessica) DiLuzio and 9 Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by her step children Beth (Tim) Harmle, Janet (Brian) Baldwin and Howard (Chip) Markley III, six step-grandchildren and 13 Step-Great Grandchildren. Her brother Kenneth Schmitt, Brother-in-law Dave Seyboldt, her devoted sister-in-law Patricia Poland as well as her brother-in-law Bob (Connie) Markley, sisters-in-law Jean (Paul) Honan and Anne Feeney. She also leaves behind several beloved nephews and nieces.

Friends may call on Monday at The Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc from 3 pm to 7 pm and are invited to the Funeral Mass on Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church at 11 am. Send condolences to www.kloeckerfuneralhome.com
