Obituary for Robert Kloecker

Robert L. Kloecker, 73, passed away Tuesday, June 21st at his home in Herrenberg, Germany. He was born in Erie May 23, 1949 to the late Edward and Katherine Kloecker.

Robert graduated from Cathedral Prep in 1967 and earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Gannon University in 1972. While at Gannon, he participated in the R.O.T.C program and was the Drill Team Leader in the Pershing Rifles. Upon graduation, he was commissioned an officer in the U.S. Army and retired after 21 years as a Lt. Colonel. Early in his military career, he earned his master’s degree in Operations Research from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. During most of his long military service, Robert led a team in Germany, working on varied complex and often highly sensitive projects. After retirement from the Army, he remained in Germany working as a government contractor on similar projects until his retirement in 2017.

Robert is survived by his loving wife Ilona, his sons David (Melissa Smith) and Jared, both of Erie. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Margaret of Erie, Joseph of Erie, James (Kim) of Waterford, William (Jeannine) of Erie, Mary Huber (James) of Girard, Edward (Sandra) of Erie and Carol Johnson (Scott) of South Riding, VA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and a very large extended family. He was also preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Diane Kloecker.
