Obituary for Robert DeMarco

Robert (Bob) DeMarco age 94 passed away peacefully at home Thursday, January 20, 2022.

Born August 31, 1927 and was the son of Mary Metz and Pacifico DeMarco. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Geraldine “Gerrie” (Cianflocco) DeMarco.

Bob was a track and field and football star at Academy High School and later played football at Gannon College - where he was the first of his family to graduate from college. Bob’s love of sports continued throughout his life as he went on to officiate high school football for 57 years including volunteering for many Save-an-Eye Games. In 2014, Bob was elected into the Metropolitan Erie Chapter of the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame for his contribution to athletics. After high school, Bob joined the Army and then served in Europe during WWII. After college, Bob began a thirty-five year career working as the Regional Director for the Bureau of Employment Security. Bob was a long-time member of Probus and past president of the La Nuova Aurora Society.

Bob was a jokester, infamous story-teller and sports fanatic. However, his most important role was as a devoted husband and father. He never missed any of his children’s activities and recently said his proudest accomplishment was his children. Aside from when he was officiating football, Bob and Gerrie were inseparable, often resulting in some comedic episodes.

He is survived by his children Kevin (Gayla), Kerry, Jeffrey (Tricia), Mary Karen, Craig (Julie), grandson Avery, several nieces and nephews including his godsons David and Dale.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his siblings George, Sal, Al (Margaret), Alvina, John (Rose) and Gerry.

Friends may call on Monday at the Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc from 3 pm to 7 pm and are invited to a service there on Tuesday at 9:15 followed by the Funeral Mass at St. Paul Church at 10 am. Send condolences to www.kloeckerfuneralhome.com
