Obituary for Mary Gensheimer
Mary Alice Bougie Gensheimer, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2022 . She was born in Erie. Pa. on September 6th, 1930 , the daughter of the late Lois Renz Bougie and Dr. James Bougie Sr.
In 1948 she graduated from Villa Maria Academy and went on to earn her degree in Home Economics from Mercyhurst University. Mary Alice married Richard (Dick) Gensheimer Sr. in July of 1952. While raising their three children she was a substitute teacher at St. Luke School and later she and Dick owned and operated Barton's Card and Gift Shop in the Liberty Plaza for 12 years. Her greatest joy came from time spent with her 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Mary Alice was preceded in death by Dick, her loving husband of 60 years and her son Richard Gensheimer Jr. She is survived by her brother, Dr.James Bougie Jr., two daughters, Ann Wilkes and husband John Genarro of Fairfax,Va. and Amy Patsy of Erie, PA., she is further survived by her six grandchildren, David and Nicholas Wilkes, Andrew and Christopher Patsy and Emily Ferko and Beth Newman and great grandchildren, Aria Patsy, Lincoln, Olive and Ezra Ferko and Henry Newman, daughters-in-law Marcia Gensheimer and Lisa Gensheimer.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers from Home Instead of Erie for their exceptional dedication and kindness in Mary Alice's final days.
A Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, July 21, at 10:00am at St. Peter's Cathedral. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. The Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2502 Sassafras Street is handling the services. Please send condolences to www.kloeckerfuneralhome.com.
