Obituary for Marie Upton

Marie T. Upton, age 31, of Fairview, PA., passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023. She was born on November 8, 1991, a daughter of Thomas and Teresa Ugis Upton.

Marie was a bright beacon of light to those close to her. She was fierce and fought to survive her painful journey living with a chronic illness. She was a great daughter, “sissy,” and “auntie.” Marie enjoyed doing crafts such as ceramics, stained glass, and painting. From childhood to high school she loved participating in track and field— especially the javelin and discus. She enjoyed her years studying pre-medicine at Gannon University. She never gave up on her dreams of finishing school in spite of her failing body. Marie took great pride in caring for her parents. She was a huge advocate for spreading awareness for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, the chronic zebra illness she suffered from. Marie will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Marie was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Mildred and Laverne Upton, maternal grandparents Paul Henry and Kay Ugis, paternal uncle Bob Upton, maternal uncles John Joseph and Paul Henry Ugis, and beloved dog Ehva Upton.

She is survived by her parents Thomas and Teresa Upton, siblings Mark (Sarah) Upton, Paul (Andrea) Upton, Catherine (Lane) Johnson, nieces and nephews, and a plethora of close friends — namely Haylee Eibel a dear lifelong friend. Many aunts and uncles. She had many fond memories of fishing with her dad and uncles Richard and Bill at her “favorite place on Earth” — Moose Lake in Antigo, Wisconsin. She is also survived by her dog Emma-Marie.

Friends are invited on Saturday, July 29th to the funeral service at 10am at the Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2502 Sassafras St. Erie, PA 16502.
