Obituary for Margaret Taft (Flavin)

Margaret F. (Flavin) Taft, age 102, of Erie, PA passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2019.

Born on April 4, 1917 in Donora, PA, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Marie Burke Flavin.

She was a graduate from California State Teachers College and taught in Monessen Public Schools and Our Lady of Peace School. She was one of the founding members of OLP Church.

Peg served as president of St. Mark Seminary Auxiliary, president of OLP Leisure Club, and treasurer of OLP Rosary Alter Society. While teaching at OLP School, she started the annual memory book that is still running today. She also has been collecting the archives of OLP Church since its origin. Peg was an avid reader and loved to do cross stitch. She did stain glass windows for each of her children and several in her own home. She also belonged to the shawl ministry, donating many shawls to people in need of prayers and comfort.

She was preceded in death by Edward Taft, her beloved husband of 58 years, in August 2000 and her brother, William, in 2005.

Peg is survived by her sons, J. Burke Taft (Jane) and William F. Taft (Suzan), daughters, Meg Mackey (Tim) and Maureen Beck (Edward), seven grandchildren, Edward, Kate and Eve Taft, Sarah Proper (Bob), and Andrew Beck, and Kyle and Tessa Mackey and 4 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call on Wednesday at the Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. from 3 pm to 7 pm and are invited to the Funeral Mass on Thursday at St. Patrick Church at 10 am. Send condolences to www.kloeckerfuneralhome.com
 
Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
