Obituary for Margaret Green (Scherrer)

Margaret “Margie” (Scherrer) Green, age 95, of Erie, passed away at home with her loving family by her side, on July 5, 2022.

Margie was born on January 28, 1927, in Erie, the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Geiger) Scherrer.

Margie was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt/friend, who was always there to help her family in any way she could. She was a caring, faith filled person and worked hard to role model that selflessness for her children. She was adored by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Fondly known as Grandma Green or “Double G” to her grandkids and their friends. She worked at the Boston Store back in the day; as well as Dr. Scholl’s, Fashion Flair and retired from Liberty V&S only after the store closed, otherwise she would still be working. She was an honest, reliable person and they were lucky to have her as their employee.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Harold Green in 1988, her brothers, Gerald, George and Jack Scherrer, and two sisters, Marian Horne and Evelyn Mowery.

She is survived by her children, Judy Johnson (Bob), Janice Tssario (Tom), Jim Green (Barb), Jeanine Green Romeo. One sister, Kathleen Weithman. Her nine grandchildren: Meaghan Beerson (Mike), Tommy Tssario (Lauri), Caitlin Mazza (Mark), Shawn Johnson (Emily), Travis Johnson (Jill), Erik Johnson (Stephanie), Lisa Pongratz (Brad), Jake Green and Alissa Romeo. Fifteen great grandchildren, Mila, Madeline and Mason Beerson. Brynna, Emma and Ethan Tssario. Avery, Harley and Baker Johnson. Brody, Claire and Delaney Johnson. Freya Johnson. Jackson and Olivia Pongratz. Her devoted niece Ginny Titus, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Sunday at the Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. From 2pm until 5pm and are invited to the prayer service on Monday at 9:15am followed by the Funeral Mass at 10am at Blessed Sacrament Church. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Blessed Sacrament Church and Julia Hospice & Palliative Care.
