Obituary for Margaret Dupre

Margaret M. Tellers Dupre, age 81, of Erie, PA., passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021. She brought so much love, faith, hope and joy to her beloved husband, family, friends, and those she encountered. She was lovingly known as “my rib”, “Maggie,” “Memere,” and “Little Maggie Sunshine.”
 
She was born in Erie, PA on August 18, 1939, a daughter of the late Herman J. and Elizabeth C. Fischer Tellers.
 
Margaret graduated from Villa Maria Academy in 1957. She then earned her B.S. in Home Economics from Mercyhurst College, graduating in June of 1961. After college she served as a Hospital Dietician Intern at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN, and then St. Vincent’s Hospital, Erie, PA, as a Therapeutic Dietician 1962-1964. She went on to serve in the Biomedical Science Corp as a Dietician in the United States Air Force and rose to the rank of Captain whiling serving in the Air Force Systems Command where she was recruited for our country’s fledging space program and worked with the first astronauts. Her dedication and service to country earned her the National Defense Service Medal, Outstanding Junior Officer of the Year 1967, and a citation in the Outstanding Young Women of America encyclopedia 1968. She received a Certificate of Recognition from William Perry, Secretary of Defense in recognition of her service during the period of the Cold War in promoting peace and stability for this Nation, the people of this Nation are forever grateful. Margaret received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Chief of Staff of the Air Force in 1991 for 32 years of unselfish, unfailing support which helped make possible her husband’s lasting contribution to the Nation. Margaret’s service to the community continued as a dietician in the Women, Infants, and Children program, working alongside other dedicated professionals committed to helping greater Erie.

She was a member of many organizations including Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish where she was a Eucharistic Minister, the Ladies Guild at Mount Carmel, a participant of the Mount Carmel Bereavement program, the German Cultural Society, the Women’s Club of Erie, and the Welcome Club of Erie.
 
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Henry Tellers.
 
She is survived by her amazing Sister, Elizabeth Schaaf, Sister-in-law, Rosalie Tellers, loving Husband, Col. Roger Dupre (USAF retired), Sons Michael C. Dupre (CWO2 USCG) of Moyock, NC., CAPT. Joseph E. Dupre (USN) of Mount Airy, MD., daughter Lt. Col. Rebecca A. Tubman (USAF retired) of Southport, NC. Twelve Grandchildren, Nathan Tubman, Marissa Tubman, Aidan Tubman, Daniel Tubman Jr., William Chase Fillpot, Madeline Dupre, Andrew Dupre, Jacob Dupre, Jeremiah Dupre, Rhea Dupre, Joseph Dupre, and Lillian Dupre. As well as, niece Renee Seyboldt, nephews Larry and Dan Schaaf, and Timothy, Justin, David and Aaron Tellers and their families.
 
Friends may call on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at the Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2502 Sassafras St. from 3pm to 7pm, and are invited to the Funeral Service at the Funeral Home on Wednesday May 12, 2021 at 12:45 pm, followed by the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel at 1:30 pm. Burial will be at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
 
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Food Pantry 1553 E. Grandview Blvd. Erie, PA 16510. The family expresses extreme gratitude to UPMC Hamot doctors, nurses, and aides on the 4th and 7thFloors/South, and Encompass Health staff. The professionals at these facilities provided compassion, dignity, and support to Margaret and her family.
