Obituary for Leon Krystek

Leon V. "Bumpa" Krystek, 84, of Erie, passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2021.

He was born in Erie a son of the late Lucian and Sophie (Ogrodowczyk) Krystek.

Leon served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Nuremberg, Germany, where he met his wife Irmgard “Irma”. On April 6th, they reached a remarkable 59 years of marriage together. He was employed at Port Erie Plastics and later worked in quality control at American Meter until he retired. After retirement, he worked at Walmart to keep busy. Leo was a skilled fisherman, avid bowler and golfer, and played in leagues until his recent illness. He enjoyed many golf trips to Florida with the guys. He was a crafty card and pool player, loved games of chance, football pools and watching pro wrestling. He kept everyone laughing with his quick wit and jokes.

You would often see Leo and Irma enjoying the many local free concerts and watching sunsets at the bay or beach. They traveled around the world together, but the trips they enjoyed most was their trips with family. The family will cherish their hikes in the mountains of Germany, swims in the warm Caribbean waters and Kishka, Pierogies, and cold Tyskies in Poland, and many other great meals and memories.

Leo was proud of his Polish heritage and loved dancing Polka with his daughter at the last Zabawa. He was a member of the Polish Falcons, Huzar, Moniuszko, Moose Club, and Sons of Lake Erie, where he even won the drawing for the 4 wheeler a few years ago. They didn’t call his “Lucky Leo” for nothing! Most of all, his greatest joy was spending time with his two grandsons, Jason and Chris, his “boys”. He was there for every sporting event and milestone along the way, the boys will cherish his lessons and the love he shared. Bumpa will be truly missed by all that knew him, but he would want you to smile, laugh, hug your loved one and have a toast to the good life! Na Zdrowie!

He is survived by his wife, Irmgard (Stobe) Krystek, daughter, Monica and John Marczak, grandsons, Jason and Chris Marczak, sister, Joan Feldman and her children Jeff, Diane, and Debbie. His dear friends, Nick, Roger, Ronnie, and Steve also survive.

Friends are invited to the graveside service on Friday, April 16th at 11am at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. The Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. is handling the arrangements. Send condolences to www.kloecker funeral home.com.
