Obituary for Leo Danowski

Leo R. Danowski, 96, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2022. He was born in Erie on June 28, 1926, the son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Niedzielski) Danowski.

Beloved husband of the late Elsie McLaughlin Danowski for over 67 years. Together they raised five children and built a legacy that includes 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is survived by four sons, Tom and wife Mary Beth of Erie, Ken and wife Linda of Richmond, VA, David and wife Betsy of Erie, Gary and wife Karen of Naples, FL, and daughter Denise Smith and husband Allen of Erie; grandsons Jason (Rachel), Andrew, Sean (Elizabeth), Christopher, Jacob, Kory, Tyler (Alicia); granddaughters Ashleigh (Dan), Kylie, Meghan (Eric), Mackenzie and Danielle and great-grandchildren Colby, Nolan, Emma, Rory, and Kendal.

Also survived by brother Chet (Sharon) Danowski and brothers-in-law, Tom Mansfield and Don (Florence) McLaughlin and sister-in-law Sylvia Ploss.

Leo was a dedicated family man and cherished spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He spent many hours fishing with friends, family, and especially his sons. Weekends were spent at beach 11 picnicking, playing pinochle, and water skiing. Leo had a strong work ethic and made it a priority to provide for his family during good times as well as some tough ones. He was proud to be a life-long truck driver, retiring from Roadway after 30+ years of service.

He served two years in the US Navy as a Coxswain during World War II.

Leo’s gardening skills were renowned growing a multitude of vegetables and flowers.

In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his brother Joseph and two sisters Catherine Mansfield and Lucille Vernie.

Leo’s famous piece of wisdom that he often shared with loved ones and others he conversed with was “Don’t get old!”. Nazdrowie!

Family and friends may call at the Kloecker Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc, 2502 Sassafras St. Erie, Pa 16502 on Monday, November 28, 2022 from 4 - 6 P.M. and are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1626 West 26th Street, at 10 A.M.
