Obituary for Lawrence "Larry" Lewis

Lawrence "Larry" Richard Lewis passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022 in his home in Erie, PA surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Larry was born on August 2, 1934 to Elmer and Florence (Barron) Lewis. He was a part of the first graduating class of McDowell High School in 1954 and received the Joan Pisano Distinguished Alumni Award in 2014. After his education, Larry joined the National Guard and served our country for many years. He then went on to work at Erie Ceramic Arts for 45 years. After retirement, he worked several years at KOA Camp Grounds. Larry was the hardest of workers not only professionally, but also in his volunteering at his parish, Sacred Heart Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Sisters of Saint Joseph and volunteered for the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and almost every parish event held at Sacred Heart Church. Larry also enjoyed driving antique cars in all of the parades around town, it brought him so much joy, especially bringing his grandchildren on the ride.

In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his in-laws, Isabelle and Urban Froess, his sister, Thersea Snyder, and his brothers, John, Elmer, and James Lewis.

Larry is survived by the love of his life, Mary Grace (Froess) Lewis, of almost 66 years, their 5 children, Mark (Joan), Timothy (Lynn), John (Donna), Martha “Mardi” Lata (Thomas), and Anne Marie Johnson (Eric), his 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Larry truly was the greatest husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend that anyone could have. His presence was like the warmest of hugs and his quick wit could make any bad day a great one. He will be greatly missed by all.

Friends may call on Thursday at Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2502 Sassafras St. Erie, PA 16502 from 3 pm until 7 pm and are invited to the prayer service on Friday at 11:15am followed by the Funeral Mass at 12 pm at Sacred Heart Church.
