Obituary for Lauretta Fanazini (Sardini)

Lauretta N. Fanazini (Sardini) passed away on September 24th, 2021 at the age of 86. Born in Erie, on December 27, 1934, she was the daughter of Harold, Sr., and Mary (DeSanto) Sardini.

As a lifelong resident of Erie, Lauretta attended Saint Andrew School and graduated as a member of Strong Vincent High School’s class of 1952. She enjoyed reconnecting with classmates and regularly attended reunions.

In 1955, Lauretta married Kenneth A. Fanazini, Sr. Lauretta and Kenneth settled in Erie on Stough Avenue where they raised their two children. In addition to being a devoted mother, Lauretta had an entrepreneurial spirit. She sought the opportunity to enroll in cosmetology school and earned her state certification. Shortly after, Lauretta set her sights on opening her own beauty shop. Lauretta became the co-owner and operator of two successful salons in Erie. She worked long hours and provided a robust second income for her family.

Lauretta was an avid reader, fierce cruciverbalist, loyal Jeopardy fan, animal lover, and an above average golfer. She was an excellent cook and baker often creating delicious pasta dishes, sauces, and meringue pies. In more recent years, to the great pleasure of family and friends, Lauretta focused on perfecting her biscotti (We thank you, Mom! Nana! GG! Lauretta!).

After retiring from the salon business, Lauretta worked at the Danish Club with other members of her family. She belonged to many organizations including the Italian Women’s Association of Erie. Lauretta was able to fulfill her dream of traveling to Italy twice with family and friends. Lauretta’s greatest joy in life came from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to whom she was the best caretaker, playmate, and adventurer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, David, Richard, and Harold Jr. “Junie” Sardini; and her husband of 33 years, Kenneth A. Fanazini Sr.

Lauretta is survived by her two children, Karen Manino (David) and Kenneth Fanazini Jr. (Monica) of Erie, six grandchildren, Leah Manino (Ashley), David Manino II (Caroline), Emily Manino, Maya Fanazini, Lillian Fanazini, and Julia Fanazini and five great-grandchildren Molly, Marina, Vivian, Austin, and Jeffrey, along with several nieces and nephews.

Lauretta’s family would like to thank VNA of Erie County Hospice and Saint Mary’s at Asbury Ridge for the care and compassion shown to Lauretta.
