Obituary for Jeanne Matson (Schweitzer)

Jeanne M. (Schweitzer) Matson, 87, of Erie, passed away on Tuesday, Decemeber 14, 2021. She was born in St. Mary’s, PA on December 29, 1933 to the late John Schweitzer Sr. and Delores (Anderson) Schweitzer Johnston.

Jeanne attended St. Joseph grade school and Academy High School. She was a member of St. Joseph Bread of Life church where she was an assistant Girl Scout Leader, Vice Prefect Young Ladies Sodality, member of the PTO and was Rose leader for the Rosary Society. Jeanne made Cursillo #254.

Jeanne worked for First National Bank and later for PNC Bank until her retirement after 25 years.

Jeanne married Earl Matson Sr. on October 3, 1953. He preceded her in death on December 4, 2012. They were looking forward to celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. Earl and Jean enjoyed camping trips with their seven children. They were snowbirds in Florida for thirteen years. After their children were grown they were blessed to enjoy trips to Toronto, Hawaii, Europe and Branson, Missouri. Jeanne loved going to sports events and birthday parties for all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother John Schweitzer Jr., step father Elmer Johnston, sons Thomas and Michael Matson, daughter Lorraine Sauers, great granddaughter’s Janelle Matson and Taliyah Brown and sons-in- law Michael Brown and Joseph Sauers.

She is survived by sons Ernest (Jackie), Earl (Deb), John (Tina) Matson and daughter Suzanne Brown. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren Shawn, Jessica, Ryann, Wendy, Ernest, Joshua, Jennifer, Thomas, Elizabeth, Earl, Michael, Ryan, Dylan, Anthony, Dustin, Steven, Dean, John, Sarah, Christine, Miranda, Darin and Kaylan.

And 36 great grandchildren Hayden, Mikealya, Hunter, Kelsie, Bailey, Samantha, Piper, Emma, Garett, Ben, Gabrielle, Matthew, Olivia, Peyton, Bella, Avery, Lane, Elijah, Olivia, Levi, Ernest III, Zachary, Carter, Andrew, Isaac, Michael, Wyatt, McKinley, Caleb, Owen, Avah, Luke, Jonah, Selah, Marlee and Micah

She is further survived by Goddaughter Donna Metzler, Brother and sister-in-law Donald and Barbara Matson, her friends Greg O’Day, the Ballman Families, many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday at the Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2502 Sassafras Street Erie PA 16502 from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm. Friends are also invited to the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church / Bread of Life Community on Saturday at 12 pm followed by the burial at Calvary Cemetery.
