Obituary for James Nies
James William Nies, age 96, of Erie, passed away September 6th, 2022.
Born in Erie, May 27th, 1926, son of the late John A. and Anna (Humm) Nies.
After graduation from Cathedral Prep in 1944, he joined the U.S. Navy. Following his military service, he enjoyed a 40 year career in the building supply business. Jim enjoyed spending time at the cottage with his family, going fishing, and attending many sporting events of his children and grandchildren. Family played a large role in his life, evident by him attending 96 consecutive Humm family reunions.
He was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Marion (Maloney), 7 children, James Jr. (Lorraine), Peggy Hinkel, John (Karen), Natalie Roach (Barry), Tim (Amery), Robert (Maureen), Mary Jo Korn (Dave), sister, Mary Jeanne Weiser, sisters-in-law, Jane Nies, Jean Nies, Kathleen Nies, Kay Piersol, 17 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, plus 1 on the way, numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends Jim and Judy Horton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law Mike Hinkel, brothers, Joe, Tom, Jerry and infant brother Jackie, sister, Rita Ann and brother-in-law Jim Piersol and Jim Weiser.
Friends may call on Sunday, September 11th, at the Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc from 2 pm to 6 pm and are invited to the Funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Monday September 12th at 11:00 AM. Send condolences to www.kloeckerfuneralhome.com
