Obituary for James Metzler
James WIlliam Metzler, age 89, of Erie, PA., passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 26, 2021. He was born in Erie, PA. on February 12, 1932, son of the late Joseph and Anna Kertis Metzler.
He served honorably in the US Army from 1954-1957. He was employed by Mutual Savings and Loan where he served as treasurer and Northwest Bank as Vice President. He retired from Northwest in 1996.
James was an avid jazz lover, he served on the library board, and he was a long time member of the Maennerchor and Kiwanis Clubs and of St. Luke's church since 1958. He was a volunteer at the St. Luke's food pantry.
In addition to his parents Joseph and Anna, he was predeceased by his brothers Thomas J. and William E. Metzler, his son Paul J. Metzler, his brother in law David A. Smith and nephew William B. Smith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Lois E. Smith Metzler, daughters Joanne E. Bartlett (Stephen), Carolyn A. Hart (John). Brother in law William B. Smith. Daughter in law Wendy Kelly Little (Charles). Grandchildren Ashley Metzler ( RIcky), Erin Metzler ( Scott), Kyle Viera, Allison Kirilchuk ( Bogdan), Christopher VIera, Madelyn Hart, Keenan, MacLain and Carson Bartlett. Nathan Kelly, Charles and Robert Little.
Great Grandchildren Kylie and Alivia Slupski, Kaiden Scheffner, Killian and Kian Bayhurst, Anya and Noah Kirilchuk. Nieces and Nephews David B.Smith, Victoria Dial, William Metzler, Cynthia (Paul) Gantz, and lifelong friends Charles and Elizabeth Ventrello, Thorpe Andrews Jr.
