Obituary for Gregory Pongratz

Gregory E. Pongratz, 69, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022.

He was born in Erie on March 25, 1953, a son of Marilyn (Lillberg) Pongratz and the late Elmer G. Pongratz.

Greg graduated from Sacred Heart School and Tech Memorial High School Class of 1971. He then worked for a few newspaper companies including North East Breeze and Clinton Press. Greg spent most of his career in graphic art and design with FMC, where he travelled internationally for business. Greg was a hairdresser on the side and continued to practice his trade on his Mother for over 47 years! He was the former President of the Wolves Club in Erie and was also a member of the Erie Maennerchor Club. After retirement, he worked part time at Sam’s Club. Greg was the go-to person for decorating tips, clothing tips, and all the gossip. He will be remembered for his story telling abilities, his quick wit, and always stirring the pot. He enjoyed gardening and arranging flowers. Greg was THE life of the party, and he enjoyed making people laugh. More importantly, Greg was a devoted son to his mother, he took such great care of Marilyn and treated her like a queen. Greg will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his father, Greg is preceded in death by an infant brother, Kevin G. Pongratz.

He is survived by his mother, Marilyn (Lillberg) Pongratz, his brothers, Jeffrey Pongratz and Brian Pongratz (Peggy), his sisters, Pamela Kozuchowsky (Michael), Laure Moore Filson (Jim), and Lisa Mosakowski, nieces and nephews, Nicholas Pongratz, Brianne Pongratz, Brooke Pongratz, Bradley Pongratz (Lisa), Lauren Kozuchowsky, Kevin Kozuchowsky, Ricky Moore, Scott Moore (Meagan), Lindsay Bach-Moore (Ellen), Allison Moore, and Zachary Mosakowski, four great-nieces and nephews, his dear friend, Maureen Reynolds, and his former spouse Donna Moryc. Several cousins and close friends also survive.

Friends may call on Monday at the Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2502 Sassafras St. Erie, PA 16502 from 3 pm until 7 pm and are invited to the Funeral Mass on Tuesday at 10 am at St. Joseph Church / Bread of Life Community.
