Obituary for Gerald Beer

Gerald “Jerry” J. Beer, 88, of Erie, PA, passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2021.

He was born in Erie on February 1, 1933, a son of the late Oscar and Catherine (Herman) Beer.

Jerry was a graduate of Sacred Heart Grade School. He attended Cathedral Prep and Academy Highschool. After returning from the U.S. Army he worked for ten years at Erie Coach Company. After that he spent 30 years at Marine National Bank as a Building Superintendent. At age 57, he retired and moved down to Florida with his wife, Janet. The two of them spent twenty-six years in Florida as Jerry enjoyed worked at Winn Dixie as an Associate. They returned to Erie in 2016 to spend more time with family and friends. Jerry enjoyed running marathons, and, later in his age, he took up walking. He was a bowler, a tropical fish enthusiast, an avid Cleveland Browns fan, and he loved telling jokes. Jerry was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club, East Erie Turners, and the Zukor Club. Jerry will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Donald Beer, sister-in-law, Dorothy Drake and her husband, Daniel Drake, and his dog, Katie Poo.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Janet (Lamhofer) Beer, two sons, Ronald Beer (Terri) and Richard Beer (Gail), four grandchildren, Ronald Beer Jr., Anne Laskowski, Jennifer Hoderny, and Tammy Beer, five great-grandchildren, Ava Grace, Logan, Madison, and Brynn Laskowski, and Brandon Hoderny, one brother, James Beer (Judy), sister-in-laws, Eleanor Beer and Carol Tregaskis. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call on Sunday at the Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2502 Sassafras Street Erie, PA 16502 from 12 pm until 4 pm. Friends are also invited to the prayer service at the funeral home on Monday at 9:30 am followed by the Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church at 10 am. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
