Obituary for David Sterling

It’s with a heavy heart we announce the passing of David Leonard Sterling, on Tuesday August 10th at 4pm at Select Specialty Hospital in Erie, PA after a chronic illness. He was surrounded by his family. He was 78 years old.

David was one of five children born September 6th, 1942, in Titusville, PA to Clinton E. Sterling and wife Mary Amanda Kibbie. David lost his mother at a very early age and subsequently his siblings and him were split up until reuniting later in life as adults. David enlisted with the U.S. Navy on January 21, 1960, and served 4 years, including time aboard the U.S.S Constellation (CVA-64) aircraft carrier while stationed in San Diego, Ca.

After his release from the Navy, David held various jobs such as a delivery driver with Jerilu Produce Co. and worked at Louis Marx Company with his brother Eddie in the late 60’s as a grinder. During this time David also was part of a local country music group for several years. David also worked at Erie Forge and Steel (formerly National Forge) for 20 plus years as a roughing lathe operator until his departure in 2005. After Erie Forge and Steel, David worked for Wal-Mart as a store display assembly technician for 7 years.

David enjoyed collecting baseball cards, fishing, and catching a baseball or football game to watch in his spare time. David was preceded in death by his mother and father, sister (Lois Sterling), two half-sisters (Mary Ellen Gourley and Dorothy Mae Proper), Sister (Ethel Whitman), and brother (Edward L. Sterling).

He is survived by his wife (Georgetta Sterling), sister (Beverly Denardo), stepsister (Jane Perrin), Sons (David Sterling, Christopher Sterling, and Daniel Sterling) and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

David’s ashes will be laid to rest at a private ceremony. There will be a memorial gathering announced in the next several days. For information, please call his son David at 814-602-4637.
