Obituary for David Gorring

David Walter Gorring passed away suddenly on November 15th, 2022 from a sudden illness. He was born in Coraopolis Pa. on January 23rd, 1940. He was survived by his Bride of 60 years, Roberta Riker Gorring. He was also survived by his sons David H. Gorring (Buzzard) of Erie, Pa., wife Rosamaria F. Carbonelli Gorring of Erie Pa., and Scott A. Gorring of Erie Pa. and wife, Shawn Marie Falcone Gorring of Erie Pa.

David was preceded in death by his father: Henry Rhodes and mother, Katherine Rhodes and his sister, Honey girl (Margaret) Vance and brother, Bill Riker and Great grandson Wyatt Michael DiGange.

Dave Gorring followed the love of his life, Roberta Riker, to Erie Pa. and began working at Pepsi then later on Kaiser Aluminum and Accuride, where he retired from in 2014. He also was one of the first paramedics for Erie Ambulance.

David was a sports enthusiast. In high school he played football, track, swimming and was the manager of the basketball team. He also was involved in the Coraopolis Follies in high school. He also enjoyed other activities such as boxing, golf, hunting, fishing and an industrial fast pitch softball, and slow pitch softball league and flag football league. You could count on him being at every game for his boys and his grand children’s sports and activities. His lucky seat should be retired for him at the Erie Veterans Memorial Stadium. He never sat in another!

David was an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan! GO “STEELERS!” He enjoyed traveling and dancing with his wife. They traveled and vacationed to every state, east of the Mississippi.

In addition to his wife and Sons, David was also survived by 5 Grandchildren: Casey Marie DiGange, Todd DiGange, Scotty Joda Gorring, Julian and Jayden Gorring. David was survived by 3 Great-grandchildren, Sophia and Dawson DiGange, all of Erie Pa. ; as well as many nieces and nephews.

David and Roberta had many wonderful friends that they enjoyed spending time with: Joe and Chris Fedei, Brigid and Brian Hollenbeck, Sally and Jim Morgan, Chuck and Dotty Hoover, the Elmwood Ave Presbyterian family, Chuck and Pat McKinney and Reverend Harry Johns and Diane.

Friends may call on Friday, November 18, at the Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2502 Sassafras St. from 4pm until 8pm and are invited to Elmwood Presbyterian Church 2826 Elmwood Ave. the following day, Saturday, November 19, for visiting from 12pm until the time of the Funeral Mass at 1pm, to be conducted by Reverend Harry Johns and Dave Edmonds.
