Obituary for Cecelia Menc

The children of Cecelia M. (Lackovic) Menc are honored to share with you the life of “our mother”, whose quiet presence in our lives is now being celebrated in her heavenly home.

Mom, age 88, passed away on February 27, 2022, in the home of her daughter, under hospice care.  Mom, also lovingly responding to “Ceil”, “Gram” and “GiGi”, was born in Erie on November 14, 1933, to Francis and Mary (Berlt) Lackovic, their only daughter.  Always standing closely by her mother’s side while growing up, she learned how to lovingly care for a large family, and skillfully prepare all those delicious Slovak recipes and passing those traditions down to her own children, who now prepare and enjoy them with their families.  (Thank you, mom!)

Married to Robert Menc, Sr. on May 24, 1952, together they moved to their house on Route 8 where they raised their family.  Mom was our Matriarch, and we are so blessed and grateful to proudly call her “our mother”.

Mom was preceded in death by her husband of forty-three years, her parents, her brothers Joe, Frank, John, Eddie, Dom, Tony, Paul and Jake Lackovic, and a son-in-law James Hein, and a grandson Christopher Menc.

Survivors include her seven children, Karen Hein of Jacksonville, FL, Margaret Menc of Ocala, FL, Robert (Betty) Menc, Jr. of Harrisburg, PA, Marlene (David) Kosobucki of Erie, PA with whom she lived, John (Robin) Menc of Amelia, VA, Julie Brown of Erie, PA, and Jennifer (Mark) Dellinger of Salisbury, NC; twenty-five grandchildren and their spouses and 41 great-grandchildren! Gram / GiGi loved you all very much! Two dear sisters-in-law Margaret Filipowski and Terry Lackovic also survive, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Our family wishes to thank everyone who sent cards, flowers and especially prayers for our mother. Know that they made her smile and brightened her days, as she thought of you warmly because of them. So much appreciation goes out to Interim Hospice of Erie, Doctor Joseph Leone, nurses Lynne, Kat and Liz, and aides who provided support and gentleness to our mom (and this family) over these past months.

Friends may call on Friday, March 4, 2022 at the Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2502 Sassafras St. from 4pm until the time of the service at 6pm. Interment at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery will be private. Send condolences to www.kloeckerfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Interim Hospice of Erie, Shriners of Erie, and St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
