Obituary for Carol Matheis (Trapp)

Carol Lois (Trapp) Matheis, age 80, of Erie, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021.

She was born in Erie, PA on December 29, 1940, the daughter of the late Emma (Becker) and Edward Trapp.

Carol was the sweetest, kindest soul and the beloved wife of William C. Matheis, Jr.

Carol is survived by her husband of 60 years, William C. Matheis, Jr., whom she married on September 3, 1960; her sons,William (Lori) Matheis, Edward (Christine) Matheis, Stephen Matheis, Jeffrey (David) Matheis; her daughter, Lisa (Stephen) Thelin; daughter-in-law, Jeanne Stebnisky; grandchildren,Denton (Jessica) Matheis, Kyle (Kristi) Matheis, Benjamin Thelin, Emily Thelin and Terra Huber (Dan); great-granddaughters, Gabriella Matheis, Emma Matheis and Kalista Matheis and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert, James and Kenneth Trapp; sisters, Eleanor Trapp and Jean Weber and son, Joseph Matheis.

After Academy High School graduation, she worked in the office of Bucyrus Erie Company. Carol was a stay-at-home mother, while also working for 37 years as office secretary of Matheis Driving School. She was employed at Sontheimer Bakery and as a long time Avon sales representative. She was a member of St. George Church, St. George Rosary Society and the German Cultural Society. In her family’s early years, she was involved in St. George School activities and Boy Scout programs.

Carol’s greatest pleasure in life came from raising her six children and later being a loving grandma and great-grandma. She had a fondness for angels, backyard birdwatching, picnics, family birthday parties and her lifelong friendships.

Arrangements are under the care of Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. The funeral service and interment at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, McKean, PA will be private.
