Obituary for Betty McAndrew (Riley)

Betty F. (Riley) McAndrew, 97, of Erie, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2022.

She was born in Osceola Mills, PA on October 29, 1924, a daughter of the late, Joseph and Agnes (Hughes) Riley.

Betty grew up in Osceola Mills and then followed her sisters up to Erie, where she spent the rest of her life. She attended Erie Business School and went on to work at Bliley Electric and Union Bank. After marrying her husband, John “Jack” McAndrew, she raised her five children. After her kids were grown, Betty worked at the Boston Store for many years. Betty was a very active member of St. Joseph Church / Bread of Life Community. When her children were young she participated in PTA. She led the Rosary for many years and was a committed adorer. She also delivered meals to the elderly and was a member of the Irish Cultural Society. Betty enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, tending to her garden, and traveling multiple times to visit family in Ireland. She even enjoyed running her snowblower until she was 90 years old. Betty was always independent and wanted to do her part to help out as much as possible.

In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” McAndrew, her sisters, Helen Kloecker, Mary Beezer, Catherine Britten, and Lt. Clair Riley, R.N. USA Nurse Corps, and a brother, Lt. Col. James Riley, Ret.

She is survived by her children, Terence McAndrew (Patricia), Kathleen Donahue (Terry), Brian McAndrew (Debbie), Timothy McAndrew (Pam), and Maureen Pace (Michael), nineteen grandchildren, Brianna, Drew, Becky, Justin, Jake, Katie, Julie, Steven, Marty, Sammy, Jonathan, Jordan, Nick, Alex, Ian, Eric, Tori, Angela, and Tony, thirty-four great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call on Tuesday at the Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm and are invited to the prayer service on Wednesday at 9:30am followed by the Funeral Mass at 10am at St. Joseph Church / Bread of Life Community. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
