Robert Kalivoda

U.S. Veteran

Robert F. Kalivoda, Sr., age 87, of Erie, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at ForestView Skilled Nursing Center in Erie, PA.  He was born in Erie on September 18, 1925, a son of the late John and Frances Kwiatkowski Kalivoda.

He was a graduate of East High School and Gannon College. He served during World War II in the United States Navy as a radioman in the Pacific Theatre. He retired as a Project Manager after thirty-seven years of service from Erie City Iron Works/Zurn Energy Division.

He enjoyed bowling, fishing and bocce. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, and a lifetime member of the St. Mary’s Club and the Polish Falcons Nest 123.  He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-five years, Rita Olowinski Kalivoda, and his siblings, Dorothy Kalivoda and Raymond Kalivoda. He is survived by his sons and their wives: David and Mary Kay Kalivoda, Daniel and Patricia Kalivoda, Michael and Diane Kalivoda, and Robert, Jr. and Michele Kalivoda, and grandchildren Katie Misiura and her husband, Brian, Stephanie, Kevin, Lisa, Jordan, Casey and Adam Kalivoda. He is also survived by a sister, Loretta Borawski. His family also includes his sisters-in-law, Clara Waskiewicz, Fran Brown, and Irene Redfoot and her husband, Raymond, as well as many nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Sunday, August 11, 2013, at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, Inc. 2502 Sassafras Street, Erie, PA. 16502 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and are invited to the Funeral Mass on Monday, August 12, at 10:00 a.m., at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1626 West 26th Street, Erie, PA. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Blessed Sacrament School, 2510 Greengarden Road, Erie, PA. 16502.
